You have got to be a rookie if you haven't heard of Sinus's plugins, well at least FreeVerb Too, which is based on Jazar's original freeverb code.  For some reason Sinus really made FreeVerb come alive.  I have tried his compressors and they are nice, but the FreeVerb is VERY versatile and warm.  If you're looking for a simple, warm, and versatile reverb (not convolution) than this is your FREE ticket.

Now Liquid SOnics has another free plug and a bunch of pay plugs, but I'm reviewing the Reverberate LE.  The plug is VERY easy to use.  It's a convolution reverb that is VERY easy on the CPU/RAM.  Even REAPER's own ReaVerb uses more CPU/RAM than this (sorry Cockos).  This is a good one.  (don't forget you'll need impulses to use this).

This plugins are awesome.  They are very CPU and RAM light, which is great on older machines.  They have an OS interface (basically it uses Windows or Mac's look a bit).  Some criticize them for being not the prettiest, but they are very easy to use while still giving you control over almost everything.  They can be both surgical and warm.  (If you have REAPER you won't need these, unless you want them for another app).

Some great (really) great plugins are being made over at TAL's site.  I love the ease of use and the sound quality is both retro and clean.  I personally am not huge into MIDI, unless it's percussion related, but the VSTi plugs seemed quite nice sounding as well.  These plugins are all free, but really deserve some cash.
